NSW State Championship Wrap up

A full wrap up  of individuals will be posted shortly, but in the meantime if you need to check results they are on the link at the bottom.

All the Southside Team achieved pb’s in various events which is a fantastic result.

Congratulations to Emma, Holly and Alexandra, Shaun, Arnold and Michael for representing your club and for looking so good in the club competition uniforms!

Thank you’s to the following.

Brian for coaching and supporting the team so well. We missed you Rod and look forward to your return.

Sandra and Lorrae for keeping track of everyone’s events. And to Alan for loaning the red K2 for the crews.

Michael G for his video camera work which will be posted on the site later and Bobbie Johnson who was also behind the lens all day.

To all the family and friends who came to support and make sure the athletes were well watered and fed. We hope that Michael H is feeling better, unfortunately he was only able to compete in the 1000 on the day.

Yvette, who volunteered for the day and was on refreshments and lunch orders duty for PNSW, lucky me!.

And PNSW for organising and staging the championships – there were a lot of events to get through in one day and everything ran smoothly and pretty close to time.

See below a wrap from PNSW President and there is also a news item from AC in the sprint news section of the website.

The prize of the Vajda Minisonic was a highlight of the day, and most people stayed for the presentation and draw from the hat. Too bad the first three drawn were not present, as it wasn’t till the 4th draw that the boat was finally won, by Neil Crabb of Windsor Canoe Club. Well done Neil, and I’m sure many a junior will benefit from this new addition to the Windsor fleet!

I would like to offer my thanks again to all those who contributed to making this event one of the best we have run, and to Jan Hall from AC in particular, for the assistance she provided in processing  and arranging the entries for this regatta, and developing the automated entry and progression system we used yesterday.

We were lucky to have near-perfect paddling conditions, and a great starter in David Lunn, that made the start pontoon unnecessary.
Liz Wilson and Steve Paget, the PaddleNSW crew behind the scenes, did a tremendous job in preparing all the documentation, enlisting volunteers and generally organising from tip to toe.

And I would like to thank all those who offered encouragement and other ‘kind’ words as I swam to the bank after a little mishap.

Please show your ongoing support of Sprint racing in NSW by entering in the winter PNSW Sprint Series out at SIRC again this year. The first regatta is on Sunday 5th June. We need a minimum of 40 paddlers to make this event possible to run. Without sufficient numbers, this great PNSW initiative will no longer be available.

After organising several regattas and sprint series, I will no longer be able to be involved in organising sprint competitions. There are just too many jobs to be done at PNSW HQ, and an exciting new project currently under way that you will hear more about shortly. So, it is time for those involved in the sport to come forward and assist Liz Wilson and Steve Paget in organising and promoting Sprint Competition in NSW. Without your assistance, Sprint will again become less accessible to the general paddling membership, and many will miss the fun and excitement of racing.

Next year, we will have a whole weekend available to us, with 1000m and 500m events on the Saturday, and 200m, 200m relays and a highlight 5000m event on the Sunday. Something we can all look forward to, so lets get the ball rolling now, and get a solid committee to assist Liz and Steve with Sprint. You can contact them at the addresses above.

All the best from PaddleNSW
