August Breakfast Race

 The boy from Woronora…..

There was movement on the river, as the word had got around
That Rod had fired up the bbq and breakfast was underway,
And the snags were already sizzling and a cuppa could be found.
So all the racers had gathered to the fray.
All the tried and noted athletes from the clubs both near and far
Had mustered to the riverside in the early light
For the paddlers love fast sprinting where two bridges are,
And the k1’s sense a challenge with delight!

OK, we could go on with that, but it is getting a bit hard to keep the rhyme working!
The day started with preparations, putting out the safety gear, safety boat launched tents and tables. Registrations went smoothly with Sandra in charge, and everyone completing the entry waiver forms. Sandra filled out the 200m heat lists and passed these on to the our Race Director, Luke. The competitors were briefed and everyone went up to the starting area.  Kay arrived to help us with the timekeeping, thank you.
There were 3 heats, a small break whilst the finals were sorted – we will make sure happens in a more timely fashion next time. Then we had an A, B and C final so everyone had two goes at the sprints. Next the 6k paddle, where the ocean skis were shown that the k1’s are the fastest craft on the water! Full results will be posted here later.
Thanks to SSCC for a these photos
After the races, it was back to wash the boats down and ‘debrief’ with a bbq and morning tea, an abundant supply of yummy cakes to refuel the body! A few took the opportunity to have some technique work on the ergo. Then a presentation and lucky draw.
Thanks to the Sutherland Shire Canoe members for attending and the write up and photos on your website,  the Southern Districts Ocean Paddlers and paddlers from a few other clubs and of course our own members for competing and providing a helping hand on the day.
Hope you all had a good morning paddle. We hope to see you all at the next Breakfast Sprint Races!
