Busters chilled down in Penrith

Arnold, Mitch H, Jack F and Nikki G raced out at SIRC penrith today in very ordinary conditions. Cold, wet, southerly in your face ( for the supporters).

Nikki was first to race in the 1000 for her maiden regatta. Jack was next and Mitch mistimed his arrival.

Back in the water for the 500's and then Arnold added to the group for the 200's. Races were run quickly and efficiently which kept the event on the go.

Thank you and Well done to the event organisers – PNSW Sprint committee.

Mitch at the World Junior Kayak Championships

15th in the world juniors wow – 3.29 in great conditions. 6th in the B final.  Congratulations and very proud of you both Mitchell Hughes and Jayden Newell. Good luck to the rest of the team and shine for Australia!

What a brilliant effort by Mitch and Jayden. Massive pb in the heat, in fact I don't think this pair have an official k2 time as they were thrown together as a team after nationals, were not even guaranteed a paddle at worlds, now they are top 18 in the world, in the b-final and have only trained together for 3 months. It just goes to show you can put 2 talented paddlers together, with commitment, who will make the effort to train together even though they live in 2 different states and shazam, a great result so far. Congratulations to both their coaches Brian Trouville and Jaydens coach from sunshine coast canoe club

Swallow Rock Marathon

Southside Paddlers are in 7th place after todays marathon. Quite a good results considering all our paddlers, bar one, were in the same division. So  only point scoring opportunities in 2 divisions today. A summary is below.  Liam better get back in the kayak or these guys will be catching up to him!

Back at Woronora we had 4 paddlers turn up for the morning paddle. They will all be trying a race next week. 🙂

  • Robert extended  his winning streak to 3 from 3 wins and up a distance to 15km.
24 Aug 2013 Cronulla Sutherland Kayak Club Division 8 01:20:16 1
  • Jack Ford  ( d8) won his first official race with his last win being a ranking race
  • 24 Aug 2013 Cronulla Sutherland Kayak Club Division 9 00:54:16 1
  • Danielle Polson was second and paddled around the course with Jack for nearly the entire race, working together.
  • 24 Aug 2013 Cronulla Sutherland Kayak Club Division 9 00:54:21 2
  • Nikki Glasson, in her first race ( ranking)  was given some confusing instructions by officials, with her race number being a 9, but being told to race in division 10.So she started a bit behind the Division 9. She obvisously likes a challenge and came in 4th, so she could hav very nearly come in 3rd as she was about 30 seconds behind the start of Division 9.
  • 24 Aug 2013 Cronulla Sutherland Kayak Club Division 9 00:55:38 4
  • Cory Donuhue, with a late dash to pick up his kayak from the container and a borrowed cap to race in, put in a great race in 56.
  • 24 Aug 2013 Cronulla Sutherland Kayak Club Division 9 00:56:02 7
  • Rod and Kevin struggled today with Rod's back giving him some grief. But as always, they finished.
  • 24 Aug 2013 Cronulla Sutherland Kayak Club Division 9 01:00:14 11

Saturday Morning Races and Schedule

Hi Fellow Busters,

Starting this Saturday 3rd August we will introduce a club point scoring system for time trial events, those being 200m sprints, 4k or 8k distance.
The 200m event will include 1 race downstream and 1 race upstream (like we normally do). Depending on numbers we will have a series of heats in each direction. Individual times will be recorded for both directions. We will take an average of these times to record PBs' and award points.
The 4k and 8k  time trial will just be a mass start and times recorded as normal.
For each event a competitor will be awarded either of the below –

  • 3 points for participating or achieving less than 85% of their PB.
  • 6 points for being within 85% of their PB.
  • 9 points for exceeding their PB.
  • 0 points for non attendants.
  • 6 points for non attendants who are competing at other kayak or surf events on the day. They have to let us know.

Starting this Saturday all competitors will receive 6 points so we establish PBs'

We need all competitors at the containers by 8.00 am.

First event at 8.20 am sharp. – 200m at southern start line.

I would expect that we wrap up the mornings by 9.30 -10.00 am at the very latest.
Any questions please let me know.
Regards
Luke Hagan.
