Southside Paddlers competed at the National Sprint Championships for 5 days last week.
Our sprint team included Nick Dawe, opens, Arnold Graf u/23, Mitchell Hughes, u/18, Michael Hagan, u/16 and Alex True u/16, plus we claimed Kevin Vowles from Victoria as a guest member, Coach on site was Brian.
Weather – you would have thought we were in Melbourne, we had every weather condition there was, wind, no wind, high humidity, heat, sun, cold, rain, storms, lightning strikes, and at times, perfect conditons.
The days were long long long, early starts and late finishes, we were still racing at 7.15 one night!

Overall highlights
Alex True’s smile after winning a gold medal in the u/16 k4 200. – first national medal
Arnold winning silver and bronze medals in the u/23 k4 200 and the u/23 k2 200 – first national medals
PB’s for everyone in most of their events. Infact about 11 pb’s in all and Nick only .07 off his pb which in windy conditions was great.
Andrew getting his new k1 – pre loved by Ken Wallace, we are expecting very fast times from Andrew at Saturday races now!
