The regatta is over, it is now sunny and warm and the wind has dropped….if only it had been like that on the weekend. Instead we had a cold southerly blowing across the course and lots of rain, not ideal for racing or pleasant for the supporters. But that is racing and everyone is in the same situation. So while athletes were not getting pb’s ( except I think for Mitch who had a massive break through in the 1000) they were getting great times, indicating that with good conditions are paddlers are in great shape.
We had a team of 11, our largest ever, which included :
Liam Rees – u 16’s – Liam placed in the k2 events and and had a great regatta.
Hayleigh Sinclair and Alex Repetto – U/18 women.
Apart from a the case of the stolen K2 just prior to their k2 200 race, both young ladies had a good weekend of competition. We did find the k2, another club’s paddlers had mistaken the boat to be there’s, raced in it, got dq’d because the boat was underweight and put the boat back on their racks.
Good lesson to be learned here for everyone is 1. Check you are getting your own boat. 2. Check the weight of your boat before a race so you are not dq’d. 3. Go down to your craft with plenty of time to find your boat and if it is missing – 4. Go and see the officials so they can hold up your race!
Mitchell Hughes, Ryan Yerbury and Rob Berzins – U/18 Men
Our three amigos provided us with some great racing and great race footage ( thanks Rob for your film of the race from a boat!) see you tube link below. Mitch is looking in great shape for Nationals and the Junior selection trials. See the results below for their individual and team boat results.
Arnold Graf, Rhett Chapman, Luke Moses, Sam Speer, – u/23 Men
This regatta was the selection event for the under 23’s and whilst our crew did not make the team this year. They certainly showed some great form and future potential to be on that team. All are young for the under 23’s and have another 2-3 years to get themselves on the squad.
Nick Dawe – Opens
Nick came to race the 200m k1 only and made the A final – so a great achievement and we look forward to seeing him race at the Nationals which are the open selection trials.
Thank you to Tradies for supplying the towels and caps for the touring team – they came in very handy in the wet conditions.
